2012 BookAward Winners

Overview

The 2012 FotoEvidence Book Award brought projects from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas documenting assaults on human dignity from around the world. From children laboring under intolerable conditions as prostitutes or producing charcoal in India to misogynist cultures of acid attacks in Bangladesh and rapes in Papua New Guinea, from violence against homosexuals in Serbia to an untreated tuberculosis epidemic raging in Ukraine.
There is no shortage of people living under conditions of great injustice but the work submitted for the FotoEvidence Book Award shows that dedicated photographers everywhere are working to bring this to light and inspire change. We are proud to publish and disseminate the selected projects, which we feel demonstrate the courage and commitment of documentary photographers in pursuit of social justice.

The selected projects are on view in the Book Award Galleries and an exhibit of all the projects will be mounted in New York at the VII Photo Agency Gallery in the fall of 2012 in conjunction with the release of Alex Masi’s book, “Bhopal Second Disaster.”
