For ten years after the attack on the WTC, Donna has photographed the healing and the restoration of Tribeca, NYC’s most historic neighborhood.

“Photographer Donna Ferrato’s Tribeca may not be your Tribeca. It is a gritty, black and white world where even a gaggle of Downtown Little Leaguers or an everyday street scene contains a spark of drama or hint of noir mystery. But then again, Ferrato, who is best known for her seminal documentary work on a place, even if that place is a neighborhood so insistently glamorized as Tribeca. 

Ferrato’s Tribeca is a neighborhood of quirky street life, barroom shenanigans, and lovers lurking in the dark. Each shot reminds us that there are wonderful surprises and insightful moments still to be revealed by the artful street photographer, whose genre-largely associated with the New York photo scene of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s – is dismissed these days by critics and dealers. In “Tribeca” we see the lineage of Robert Frank, Garry Winnogrand, Lee Friedlander and other practitioners from the golden era carried forward.”
